Opportunities, Connections, and New Ideas at the Coal Preparation Industry’s Leading Annual Event Stamford, CT (May 18, 2010) —Coal Prep 2010 brought the worldwide coal processing community together in Lexington, Kentucky, April 26-29, with record breaking attendance. Coal Prep, The Annual International Coal Processing Exhibition and Conference (
www.coalprepshow.com) expanded upon its tradition of providing cutting-edge education and generating high-volume traffic on the exhibit floor, as well as offering the unique networking opportunities which make it the industry’s leading event.
Over 3,000 coal preparation professionals gathered to see the latest products and technologies from over 250 leading global suppliers of coal processing equipment and services, reflecting a 10% increase in square footage of exhibits space over last year. International participation included attendees from Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Columbia, India, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and other countries involved in coal preparation. Early feedback from exhibitors has been that attendees at Coal Prep 2010 were not only present in greater numbers than in previous years, but were also of a higher quality than past shows.
Opening day closed with a lively cocktail reception in the Lexington Convention Center. Attendees were able to network in a relaxed atmosphere to share ideas with their industry peers while enjoying great food and drinks.
The intensive workshops for Coal Prep 2010 were well-received and well-attended, in keeping with strong participation patterns of previous years. Workshops included: Screens; Heavy Media Separations; Fine Coal Circuits; Dewatering; and Maintenance/Troubleshooting. Coal Prep’s workshops provided operators with Continuing Education Hours, allowing them to stay up-to-date on how to operate their plant more efficiently and effectively. The 2010 Coal Prep Workshops were organized by the Coal Preparation Society of America (CPSA).
In 2010, the XVI International Coal Preparation Congress (ICPC) co-located with Coal Prep in Lexington. The ICPC is a forum for coal preparation professionals and meets on a quadrennial basis in rotating venues around the globe. The ICPC was hosted by the Coal Preparation Society of America (CPSA) and the International Organizing Committee (IOC). This was the first time the United States hosted the Congress since 1966. It was an honor for the U.S. community of coal professionals for the U.S. to have been the chosen venue for 2010.
In recognition of the Montcoal Mining Accident on April 5, and the resulting loss of lives within the coal community family, Coal Prep 2010 partnered with the West Virginia Council of Churches to collect funds in support of those coal mining families directly affected by the recent accident in West Virginia. Collection bins were set up at Coal Prep for those interested in making donations. All collected donations will go directly to the families affected, under the direction of the office of the Governor of West Virginia.
Coal Prep Sales Manager Sam Posa reflected on the continuing success of the Coal Prep show, and the pivotal role that this event plays for the coal prep industry. “Coal Prep 2010 was the largest and most successful event in its 25 plus year history. We had a great turn out in all facets of the event, the exhibition was the largest to date, our conference workshops were filled to capacity and our Tuesday evening reception was a tremendous social event. Also, with the co-location of the International Coal Prep Conference we had a very good international presence from the world wide coal prep community.”
In 2010, Coal Prep launched the Academic Partner Program, which is dedicated to providing thenext generation of coal processing engineers the tools and resources they require to be successful in meeting tomorrow’s demands. 2010 Program Partners included: West Virginia University, Virginia Tech, University of Utah, and the University of Kentucky. Coal Prep is honored to have been able to provide an environment where young industry professionals could come develop advanced technical skills and establish important industry connections not found anywhere else. Additionally, a newly formed Advisory Committee will allow Coal Prep to stay in-tune with the ever changing needs of the industry and provide for an enhanced experience at future Coal Prep shows.
